To be honest I have taken a bit of a break from blogging. It seems that once I go back to school in September life just goes onto the highest speed and the weeks whizz past. It seems that we are now in November - how the heck did that happen??<br />
<br />
But some photographic proof of sewing that has been happening round here......<br />
<br />

This week I have made a staple dress and completed my St Louis 16 patch quilt top...and made and sent my X and + blocks for the August queens.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ub10hao2LAE/UgJHC58nIgI/AAAAAAAAArY/_hvc9QL1sHw/s1600/DSC02425.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ub10hao2LAE/UgJHC58nIgI/AAAAAAAAArY/_hvc9QL1sHw/s400/DSC02425.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Amy hadn't given any preferences so I went a little bit scrappy for her but kept the triangles white to calm the blocks down a bit. Nikki asked us for bright, modern and geometric. I think these fit the bill.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DnqKVdnqLNQ/UgJHPqZ1-DI/AAAAAAAAArg/uiZo74rUeWc/s1600/DSC02426.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DnqKVdnqLNQ/UgJHPqZ1-DI/AAAAAAAAArg/uiZo74rUeWc/s400/DSC02426.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
If you instagram the #stlouis16patch quilt seems to be the quilt of the moment. Just like the #scrappytrips was a few months ago. I jumped on the bandwagon and turned this stack of 1 yard cuts of Sarah Fielke's 'From little things' into a quilt top.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qFP72X6Mv9k/UgJHcgqgRKI/AAAAAAAAAro/PpsfD6ESqEE/s1600/DSC02374.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qFP72X6Mv9k/UgJHcgqgRKI/AAAAAAAAAro/PpsfD6ESqEE/s400/DSC02374.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The blocks came together pretty quickly using 4 inch strips which were stitched then cut and flipped and stitched back together again. Each block measures around 14 inches finished.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KBMWa6EB5Cs/UgJHjBgtENI/AAAAAAAAArw/urrIUrq5lwQ/s1600/DSC02431.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KBMWa6EB5Cs/UgJHjBgtENI/AAAAAAAAArw/urrIUrq5lwQ/s400/DSC02431.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've had this fabric sitting in my stash for about 2 years now so it felt good to cut into it and turn it into something which will be used. My eldest has already claimed it for herself once I manage to find some suitable backing fabric and get it quilted.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BOzLjG1EUNY/UgJH_hjP_cI/AAAAAAAAAr4/Ulpsix9iPGg/s1600/DSC02428.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BOzLjG1EUNY/UgJH_hjP_cI/AAAAAAAAAr4/Ulpsix9iPGg/s400/DSC02428.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
But what I am most proud of this week is my staple dress. Again another hashtag (#stapledress)<br />
and what seems to be world wide domination if instagram and flickr are anything to go by. I made mine using some AMH Field study - sundials in turquoise. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fDd4EJtFBBc/UgJIEN4ocwI/AAAAAAAAAsA/OREL0xBCbUw/s1600/DSC02421.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fDd4EJtFBBc/UgJIEN4ocwI/AAAAAAAAAsA/OREL0xBCbUw/s400/DSC02421.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Now I was quite nervous about sewing a dress. I've not done anything like following a proper pattern for ages but I went ahead, reading the full instructions very carefully and checking each step of the way. I mastered french seams and neck and arm facings without hitch and even managed the shirring (5 rows) around the waist. And what's even better is......it fits!!! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NGZnVzNNP2M/UgJIEaRWVTI/AAAAAAAAAsE/ok3JQLhpdiQ/s1600/DSC02420.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NGZnVzNNP2M/UgJIEaRWVTI/AAAAAAAAAsE/ok3JQLhpdiQ/s400/DSC02420.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
All I need now is an excuse to wear it! I have another one of these planned using a Nordika panel along with my new found confidence in dressmaking.kerrypuddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17434412888084869374noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7679354134341869535.post-44466636078045419282013-07-29T20:41:00.000+01:002013-07-29T20:41:12.596+01:00A few finishesSchool has officially finished for the summer holidays - yay! But hang on....the heat wave also seems to have finished. Bloody typical. I've been stuck in a classroom with 30 kids in temperatures upto 31 degrees and today, the first day of my holidays I've been stuck inside with my own 2 kids whilst we have thunder storms and torrential rain. Lovely! Grrrrrrr.<br />
<br />
Oh well.....more finishes to show and tell.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I've only just got round to finishing my two quilts for Siblings Together - they were sat with the binding attached for ages but other things like finishing school reports and end of year stuff got in the way. They are now ready for posting tomorrow.<br />
<br />
A few more blocks done and dusted for the x and + bee. These were posted off to the ladies last week. The August blocks will be done by the end of the week.<br />

<br />
Along with these finishes a couple of starts too. A St. Louis 16 patch and a Staple dress. Hopefully finished later this week!kerrypuddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17434412888084869374noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7679354134341869535.post-17458348504446560752013-06-16T20:07:00.002+01:002013-06-16T20:07:36.749+01:00Time I can't believe we are over half way through June already.....the weeks are slipping by far too quickly, the end of yet another school year is ahead and it seems to have been a few weeks since I have done anything remotely crafty. <br />
<br />
Instead what I have been doing has been rather lovely and well deserved, I might add. Days have been spent soaking up the sun, reading lots of books and generally doing nothing more straining than lifting food or drink to my lips. Oh the joys of a holiday....I now need another one please!<br />
<br />
Back to reality for me though now.<br />
<br />
These are my June blocks for the X and + bee ladies (though they were made last month!). Nan wanted scrappy with solid triangles:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fXIRcP_36TU/Ub4KvZQtvpI/AAAAAAAAAow/lh9Ie88QyFk/s1600/DSC01980.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fXIRcP_36TU/Ub4KvZQtvpI/AAAAAAAAAow/lh9Ie88QyFk/s400/DSC01980.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am pleased to say that she likes them!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The next two blocks were for Cathy. She asked for the + to be in red, either solid or a red print. I went for the solid. She also said that she didn't want anything too bright and so I opted for a truely low volume approach. These left the UK earlier this week heading to the US so I'll have to wait and see if these fit the bill!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DFLzpW3vDl0/Ub4K2D8XCzI/AAAAAAAAAo4/MuQYhvYo4_M/s1600/DSC01973.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DFLzpW3vDl0/Ub4K2D8XCzI/AAAAAAAAAo4/MuQYhvYo4_M/s400/DSC01973.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Earlier today I pulled fabrics for next month's Queen bees but a children's party stood in the way of any actual sewing and tonight's task is lesson planning. A sunday night job that sometimes fills me with dread and fear that yet another week is quickly approaching and time is slipping away. Oh well only another 5 weeks and four days until the summer holidays....not that I'm counting or anything!</div>

<br />
The orbit quilt is finished and being used (no photo as proof - you'll just have to take my word for it!).<br />
<br />
I took delivery of my Big shot after it has held captive by UPS for a couple of days. Apparently they couldn't find my house, well Mr Royal Mail postie finds us everyday, we're not even off the beaten track, just down a driveway inbewteen 2 other houses! I had words with them and with a bit of help from googlemaps they managed the delivery!<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When ordering it I went for a couple of dies, the tumbler and a half triangle die, I think 4.5". A couple of practice runs at using scraps and left over charms just to see what it did and I am smitten. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The tumbler was put into action to create a cushion for the youngest to match her sherbet pips quilt. Whilst I was at it the eldest requested a Cat in the hat cushion, which I even tried a bit of FMQ on - it's not that good but I guess an 8 year old won't mind.</div>

But my productivity doesn't stop there!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
May sees the first month of the x and + bee that I joined a while back. <a href="http://quiltoo.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Patti</a> has done a great job in organising 23 of us. My month is February, which at the moment seems a long way off but I am so looking forward to it. Yesterday I cracked on with making blocks for the May queens, Nicky and Mary.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Nicky had requested bright and modern:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Mary put her request in for black and white prints with brights:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6_Co8YkWSfg/UY9o4SX2RJI/AAAAAAAAAoA/_Fd4Kld5af4/s1600/DSC01967.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6_Co8YkWSfg/UY9o4SX2RJI/AAAAAAAAAoA/_Fd4Kld5af4/s400/DSC01967.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
And guess what....I didn't stop there....I also managed to get my June blocks done too. Only because I'm jetting off on my hols at the beginning of June and want to get them posted off before I go! <br />
<br />
One of my Siblings Together quilts has been quilted too, I just need to hand stitch the binding on and then move onto the other one. Ideally these need to be done before I go away too just so I can tick them off my list.<br />
<br />
Phew......think I need a rest!<br />

<br />
The Orbit quilt has been quilted in a spiral, first time that I have ever tried something other than straight lines. The centre was an absolute bugger to do but once the whole of the quilt wasn't being forced through a standard domestic machine throat it did seem to get a little bit easier.<br />
<br />
Initially I planned on using my walking foot guide to ensure that the spiral was quilted evenly but it had other ideas and so I did my best to keep the lines about 1.5 inches apart. On the whole I managed it.<br />
<br />
The binding has just been machined on and later today will be hand stitched to the back and finished. Then into the washer and dryer and ready for me to use.kerrypuddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17434412888084869374noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7679354134341869535.post-15062052812916236392013-04-12T16:30:00.000+01:002013-04-12T16:30:00.581+01:00x and + practice<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

Today a little practicing took place before venturing into the x and + bee. Digging into scraps and playing around with placement of fabric saw a couple of hours pass by. Quick and easy blocks = happy me.<br />

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W8gL2j4NXwU/UWPvNCF-aSI/AAAAAAAAAlw/5ol8v_Gh6wk/s1600/DSC01879.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W8gL2j4NXwU/UWPvNCF-aSI/AAAAAAAAAlw/5ol8v_Gh6wk/s400/DSC01879.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This lot shouldn't be at my house it should still be in Hobbycraft. You see I didn't actually need any of this. I only went in for a quick look but somehow came out with a carrier bag full and a purse £40 lighter. Maybe I will try to hand quilt something in the future now I've got the hoop, thread and needles. Sounds like a plan, doesn't it?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qS3XiwA42R0/UWPvcxSWvuI/AAAAAAAAAl4/SMziyoZgXKk/s1600/DSC01881.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qS3XiwA42R0/UWPvcxSWvuI/AAAAAAAAAl4/SMziyoZgXKk/s400/DSC01881.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Now I definitely needed this lot! The pins fabric is for my charm swap with Cindy over at <a href="http://fluffysheepquilting.com/" target="_blank">Fluffy Sheep Quilting</a> and the charm packs and birdy fabric needed to come and live at my house and be part of the ever growing fabric family. That's what I'm telling myself anyway.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yFoY-MxwAC0/UWPvgji-l6I/AAAAAAAAAmA/ZFw84RA_5aI/s1600/DSC01883.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yFoY-MxwAC0/UWPvgji-l6I/AAAAAAAAAmA/ZFw84RA_5aI/s400/DSC01883.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The fabric arrived at 10.30am this morning and it is already cut and ready to be posted off, how's that for speedy!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vJSQySttW70/UWPvmCZR-AI/AAAAAAAAAmI/xtsTscHahVE/s1600/DSC01885.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vJSQySttW70/UWPvmCZR-AI/AAAAAAAAAmI/xtsTscHahVE/s400/DSC01885.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Looking at the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/fsqrainbowcharmswap/" target="_blank">Flickr group</a> there are some great fabrics that I can't wait to get my hands on and I will be able to tell my husband that I didn't 'buy' any of them! <br />
<br />
Perhaps I shouldn't tell him about the Sizzix big shot and dies that fell into my shopping basket when I was ordering the much needed wadding.....hmmmmmm.kerrypuddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17434412888084869374noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7679354134341869535.post-22694500474903624102013-04-04T14:41:00.005+01:002013-04-04T14:41:50.877+01:00Siblings Together 2013<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8e6-Cz_nvPU/T4iLOxhl_gI/AAAAAAAAAPY/gtqn4lNjGa8/s1600/quilts+siblings.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8e6-Cz_nvPU/T4iLOxhl_gI/AAAAAAAAAPY/gtqn4lNjGa8/s1600/quilts+siblings.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Last year I made a <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/58427436@N02/7190963548/in/pool-1877232@N25/" target="_blank">quilt</a> for <a href="http://siblingstogether.co.uk/" target="_blank">Siblings Together</a> like many others did. This year I have decided to do it again but I wanted to make 2 this time round.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So last night I raided my stash to see if I had anything I could use as inspiration. The sewing was completely off the cuff, not planned and that is how I decided to go with the quilt too. I came across a bag of Reunion bits and pieces left over from my husband's quilt from last summer which I then teamed with various solids and a couple of prints from the stash.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After an hour or so I had this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wjJDoGdrIpo/UV172fUCywI/AAAAAAAAAj0/mlVvb0yLyjY/s400/DSC01869.JPG" width="300" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Another hour or so this morning and I have a finished top measuring 53 x 47 inches. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7B0DyfzM2yQ/UV17z4yrbTI/AAAAAAAAAjs/51Zs_-V7n68/s1600/20130404_122554.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7B0DyfzM2yQ/UV17z4yrbTI/AAAAAAAAAjs/51Zs_-V7n68/s400/20130404_122554.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now I've said before that I don't do 'boy' very well but I'm really pleased with how this has turned out and hopefully it will make someone else happy.</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aFmD9yEdkGA/UV18Fezk4-I/AAAAAAAAAkM/GcNbDUIB6Lc/s1600/DSC01874.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aFmD9yEdkGA/UV18Fezk4-I/AAAAAAAAAkM/GcNbDUIB6Lc/s400/DSC01874.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
With the boy top done I quickly whizzed on to the next quilt top. I have loads of girly prints and pinks etc in my stash but I know that there are some girls who might not be pink and frilly. Ages ago I had bought a couple of Moda scrap bags in Happy Daisy and had started to sew them together in a simple stripe. Then I had left it.<br />
<br />
Until today....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NTcPnNm21ws/UV17_D8UsUI/AAAAAAAAAj8/QKChZhJXeWI/s1600/20130404_124822.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NTcPnNm21ws/UV17_D8UsUI/AAAAAAAAAj8/QKChZhJXeWI/s400/20130404_124822.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Whilst it looked OK initially I soon realised why I had left it - being a scrap bag the pieces were only about 28 inches or so long, far too narrow for a quilt! By chance I had a couple of yards of solid blue which matched some of the blue in the prints and so I added a 6 inch border all the way round. It now measures 63 x 41 inches and it a bit more useable as a quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gy-ysPIMuS4/UV18CeZe7xI/AAAAAAAAAkE/ZgIl12yVGrI/s1600/20130404_133701.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gy-ysPIMuS4/UV18CeZe7xI/AAAAAAAAAkE/ZgIl12yVGrI/s400/20130404_133701.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Here it is:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5C0xUTkN5l8/UV18HlTYPYI/AAAAAAAAAkU/Kwxezz170qw/s1600/20130404_134050.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5C0xUTkN5l8/UV18HlTYPYI/AAAAAAAAAkU/Kwxezz170qw/s400/20130404_134050.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Now I have 3 quilts waiting for wadding and quilting, unfortunately that's the bit I don't really enjoy.<br />

<br />
A few days ago I signed up for another charm swap. This time round it is a rainbow swap which is great as I do love a nice bit of colour.<br />
<br />
Colours have already been assigned and I'm in the green group. Hmmmm. I like green but it isn't a colour that I would readily choose when picking fabrics. I'm usually drawn to reds, pinks and purples but I knew what print I wanted straight away.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-22-KX6vyAd8/UVYNvcLj25I/AAAAAAAAAjM/e9K8E34rKqc/s1600/SewStitchy-18544-16-450.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-22-KX6vyAd8/UVYNvcLj25I/AAAAAAAAAjM/e9K8E34rKqc/s320/SewStitchy-18544-16-450.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Sew Stitchy pins in Olive!<br />
<br />
It took me about 5 mins to get ordered and paid for after reading the email. Of course I had to order just a bit more than the 2 yards that I need for the swap. Oh and a bit more fabric might have happened to fall into my basket as well....just to make those shipping costs worthwhile....honest.<br />
<br />
Once it arrives I have to slice it into 5" squares and post it off to <a href="http://networkedblogs.com/JBSWW" target="_blank">Cindy</a> and then await a rainbow of charms in return.kerrypuddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17434412888084869374noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7679354134341869535.post-21195833490949788572013-03-30T13:18:00.003+00:002013-03-30T13:19:24.899+00:00Orbit top complete!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q92Fri4Spdw/UVbkjIsNONI/AAAAAAAAAjc/9lnhXH8-kic/s1600/DSC01816.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q92Fri4Spdw/UVbkjIsNONI/AAAAAAAAAjc/9lnhXH8-kic/s400/DSC01816.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It's done!<br />
<br />
This morning I waved my 3 off on a bike ride and so without anyone in the house to pester I managed to finish off the Orbit quilt top.<br />
<br />
I already have some Amy Butler solid in periwinkle and one a couple of yards of the periwinkle print for the back but I'm out of wadding unless I use up all my scraps and that 'heat and press batting together' tape. I'll probably just wait until after the weekend and get some ordered.<br />
<br />
The different prints work well, even that Lotus spot, and I'm happy with the result. I now just need to work out how to quilt it. I was thinking of a spiral as I've never done that before and I am hopeless at FMQ. Failing that I will probably do what I do best.....wonky straight lines.kerrypuddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17434412888084869374noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7679354134341869535.post-36906685760255493222013-03-29T20:54:00.004+00:002013-03-29T20:54:58.161+00:00A good friday!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nBqVAmDYr70/UVX9fvnIyCI/AAAAAAAAAi0/pUJSDvcGhE4/s1600/DSC01812.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nBqVAmDYr70/UVX9fvnIyCI/AAAAAAAAAi0/pUJSDvcGhE4/s400/DSC01812.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hooray for Bank Holidays! A few hours sewing today meant that I could finish off cutting the fabric for my Orbit quilt and then get to work on the piecing. The above photo is what I managed to get done before tea time. Now it is double that and hopefully will be finished tomorrow, if the kids play nicely with each other and stay out of my way.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Earlier this week I took a trip to A & E after experiencing some pain in my left hand. One x-ray and two examinations later the Dr told me that I have torn a tendon in my left thumb. Rest was diagnosed......yeah right as if I can manage that. Sewing today hasn't been that easy or the quickest and yep, my left hand is now suffering and a bit achey but I can say that it is worth it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Remember the spotty fabric that I had picked from my stash to make up one of the half yards needed for this quilt? Well it turns out it was Amy Butler all along but from her Lotus range rather than the Love range. Who'd have thunk it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
Back to show the finished quilt top soon.kerrypuddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17434412888084869374noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7679354134341869535.post-63378514165848454982013-03-27T23:02:00.002+00:002013-03-27T23:02:24.995+00:00x and + bee anyone?<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This block has been on my mind all week. Seriously every day I have looked at it and pondered about starting a quilt despite not yet having cut all of the fabric for my orbit quilt. It seemed like destiny to me when I came across a brand new bee starting up in May. I'm all signed up and raring to go.</div>

Being a bee virgin I am super excited and can't wait to see what everyone creates for each other.kerrypuddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17434412888084869374noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7679354134341869535.post-87209202806642591702013-03-24T20:39:00.000+00:002013-03-24T20:39:05.312+00:00Next....This weekend I have managed to bind my Primitiva quilt and so found myself without a project (apart from the ongoing Swoon). This needed immediately rectifying so I headed onto the t'interweb for some inspiration.<br />
<br />
And soon I found <a href="http://lrstitched.com/tag/orbit-quilt-pattern/" target="_blank">this.</a> Quickly, I ran upstairs to the sewing room to see if I had any fabric in my stash which would be suitable and sure enough I did. About 2 years ago when I started to sew again and was just beginning to find my way around blogs and online shops I bought 20 FQs of Amy Butler's Love collection. If I remember rightly I got a random selection in a sale. But sure enough some of them were duplicates and so I had some half yards. This meant that I could go down the original supply route not the scrappy route on the pattern.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z7fMs3xBBYQ/UU9h2YLkXyI/AAAAAAAAAiM/IyEHNZ_9suw/s1600/20130323_153630.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z7fMs3xBBYQ/UU9h2YLkXyI/AAAAAAAAAiM/IyEHNZ_9suw/s400/20130323_153630.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A little helper decided to get involved in the sorting and even loaned me her crayons so that I could do the colour by numbers planning sheet. She loves 'helping', usually pressing the buttons on my sewing machine when I don't want her to!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JhIFBfyZ6xk/UU9h_fe8ioI/AAAAAAAAAiU/EazM9YNC434/s1600/20130323_153736.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JhIFBfyZ6xk/UU9h_fe8ioI/AAAAAAAAAiU/EazM9YNC434/s400/20130323_153736.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Although I had 20 FQs unfortunately there was only 4 half yards in different prints and so the 3rd from the left on the top row isn't AB Love but something from the stash which is a pretty good match. The bonus is that I even have a couple of yards of the periwinkle print and matching solid for the backing. All I need to do now is get cutting.<br />
<br />
This one is going to be for me.kerrypuddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17434412888084869374noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7679354134341869535.post-31980840509035311132013-03-17T12:22:00.003+00:002013-03-17T20:46:58.280+00:00The one where I make something that isn't a quiltYay it's the weekend again which means sewing time! Far too much school work each evening this week and parent's evenings to be done meant that there were no sewing opportunities for me (boo hiss!!)<br />
<br />
So yesterday I set about making something that has been on my to do list for a couple of weeks. A bag for yours truely! <br />
<br />
I started with this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DKhkMUu19ic/UUWyzxVUAsI/AAAAAAAAAhY/yE_ldgjc_mA/s1600/20130222_123528.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DKhkMUu19ic/UUWyzxVUAsI/AAAAAAAAAhY/yE_ldgjc_mA/s320/20130222_123528.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I kept it simple as this is the first time that I have ever tried to make a bag and I followed <a href="http://vintagericrac.blogspot.com.au/2008/01/1-hour-bag-tutorial.html" target="_blank">this</a> tutorial. I read all of the instructions as I went along, sometimes even twice, determined to get it right first time.<br />
<br />
Although the bag could be made without a pocket I put one in.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DG6VKnq20k8/UUWy3g58xdI/AAAAAAAAAhg/k9OoPpb008M/s1600/20130317_164745.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DG6VKnq20k8/UUWy3g58xdI/AAAAAAAAAhg/k9OoPpb008M/s320/20130317_164745.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I amazed myself by managing to line up the metal closures first time!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AhBAKlJcTc0/UUWy77NtZmI/AAAAAAAAAho/m8v_t9jBY9c/s1600/20130317_183126.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AhBAKlJcTc0/UUWy77NtZmI/AAAAAAAAAho/m8v_t9jBY9c/s320/20130317_183126.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Though I did make one slight modification to the pattern. The strap was meant to measure 29 inches but I just did it the width of the fabric, resulting in a longer strap but perfect for me as I am pretty much a dwarf and with this strap I can wear it across my body - great when out and about with the kids and I have to make a grab for them both.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EExs7hQnMI0/UUWy-QD19NI/AAAAAAAAAhw/9U8FxJeSSAg/s1600/20130317_183058.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EExs7hQnMI0/UUWy-QD19NI/AAAAAAAAAhw/9U8FxJeSSAg/s320/20130317_183058.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Here it is. One finished bag. OK so it took me a bit longer than the 1 hour stated in the tutorial but that was only because I took my time. Honest.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k4cUNNcuYkU/UUWzAxwRXhI/AAAAAAAAAh4/WbmETgCtlBE/s1600/20130318_120007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k4cUNNcuYkU/UUWzAxwRXhI/AAAAAAAAAh4/WbmETgCtlBE/s320/20130318_120007.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's Mother's day and so as a treat I got to switch around the spare room. This made me happy but the cleaning up I had to do in the process didn't. A couple of months ago my sewing space got invaded by my husband and a computer. A necessity I was told, I won't get in the way I was promised. Honest. Yeah right.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had didn't have enough room to swing a cat yet alone quilt a quilt any bigger than a mini and so a switch was needed. It started with the bed, who would have thought just moving it from one wall to the other would have created enough room for two separate work areas. Result!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kBakYWS15b8/UTzB2_KvhFI/AAAAAAAAAgg/tUkT6EfvbhE/s1600/20130311_172010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kBakYWS15b8/UTzB2_KvhFI/AAAAAAAAAgg/tUkT6EfvbhE/s400/20130311_172010.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
At the end of the bed there is just enough room for my shelves that store most of my stash. A quick tidy and organise was needed here after the chaos created when I was scrappy tripping.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gLvIvVih3Rc/UTzB6GO9aqI/AAAAAAAAAgo/hcr9bjerRKU/s1600/20130311_172046.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gLvIvVih3Rc/UTzB6GO9aqI/AAAAAAAAAgo/hcr9bjerRKU/s400/20130311_172046.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Another little cupboard houses all my scraps and odds and sods with the added bonus of somewhere to keep my swoon squares to hand.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JAkyPSKwMz0/UTzB7w_mnWI/AAAAAAAAAgw/xMSvl6F4Sjk/s1600/20130311_172058.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JAkyPSKwMz0/UTzB7w_mnWI/AAAAAAAAAgw/xMSvl6F4Sjk/s400/20130311_172058.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Plus I have enough room to be able to move my sewing table for when I need to quilt! Extra bonus!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PpKnIvDRKaA/UTzB-FDVxWI/AAAAAAAAAg4/3CjnlctRSPM/s1600/20130311_172220.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PpKnIvDRKaA/UTzB-FDVxWI/AAAAAAAAAg4/3CjnlctRSPM/s400/20130311_172220.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then there is the hanging space on the doors to the eves - a perfect size for my swoon blocks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6GS08FGcsvo/UTzCCLba40I/AAAAAAAAAhA/TwkK3UZkFG0/s1600/20130311_172117.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6GS08FGcsvo/UTzCCLba40I/AAAAAAAAAhA/TwkK3UZkFG0/s400/20130311_172117.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Talking of which, I managed to make another 2 this week and so I have managed to catch up just in time for this month's Simply Solids Stash delivery - one pink swoon coming soon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sJEsxie7g4Y/UTzCGSvAwAI/AAAAAAAAAhI/Wu8HRWutt4M/s1600/20130311_172148.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sJEsxie7g4Y/UTzCGSvAwAI/AAAAAAAAAhI/Wu8HRWutt4M/s400/20130311_172148.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have no idea why this one is upside down, lets just pretend it isn't! </div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZpvQ7kL6Pyg/UTNhm1QkGqI/AAAAAAAAAgI/IwOcodfQuPE/s1600/20130304_143707.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZpvQ7kL6Pyg/UTNhm1QkGqI/AAAAAAAAAgI/IwOcodfQuPE/s400/20130304_143707.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's done! It was finished last weekend but has been sitting around until I could get a daylight picture of it in it's full glory. Unfortunately I cannot say it is my best work infact it is probably close to some of the worst quilting I have ever done. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I blame British Gas.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Honestly it was all their fault. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Just as I sat down to start quilting on the evening of the day of interruptions British Gas called trying to flog me something. When I returned to the sewing machine some 15 minutes later all of my plans seemed to have left my brain space. I started to quilt. Badly. 20 minutes in I ended up ripping out a whole load of stiches and vowed to return to it the next day.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I did. And soon realised that I didn't have enough room in the 'sewing room' aka the spare bedroom to quilt the monster. I stopped and took all my stuff down to the kitchen where there was enough space plus a radiator. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I hit a whole load of tension issues. I starting swearing and shouting and then that was followed by a whole lot of screaming until my Janome started to play nicely.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
By this point I wanted it done. So I upped the speed which resulted in some seriously wonky straight lines. I like to refer to them as organic but they are in fact just plain crappy.</div>

I had a whole lot of scrappy binding to hand and so that was whizzed on and hand stitched to finish in front of the fire/telly with a BIG drink!</div>

<br />
Backed in the IKEA numbers print that everyone seems to have lying around and quilted each side of every other square to create a simple grid. My second quilt of the year - it was finished in February and I'm having it as my month's make! Destined for my youngest daughter's bed and it's a good job really as it's not going to win any prizes and I'm not sure I could face it being in anyone else's home!<br />
<br />

<br />
So that was last weekend. This weekend has been all about this baby:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hYmtmmc5iAc/UTNhnvff_qI/AAAAAAAAAgQ/-W9bJr0Sme8/s1600/20130304_143724.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hYmtmmc5iAc/UTNhnvff_qI/AAAAAAAAAgQ/-W9bJr0Sme8/s400/20130304_143724.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have finally got round to doing my first swoon block using my Simply Solids stash. Friday evening and Saturday morning I cut all the solids for 3 blocks and this morning I spent a couple of hours putting my first block together. It took me a while. I have learned an important lesson since last weekend - sometimes speed isn't your friend. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I read the instructions and re-read them but I think I might have missed the part about pressing seams open as some of my points are a bit bulky. I'm gonna re-read those instructions again before I do my next 2 blocks but saying that I'm happier about this baby than the #(s)crappytripalong as I am now calling it.</div>

This morning has been all about the Swoon. My <a href="http://www.fancymoon.co.uk/downtown-dot-sand-cotton-dress-quilt-fabric-alexander-henry-4112.html" target="_blank">background fabric</a> arrived about 3 weeks ago but as I was happily tripping at the time it has been sat patiently waiting for me. But this morning I started slicing. All the background fabric is done and I've picked out my solids for my first 3 blocks. This is an ongoing project. Something for me to dip into each month when my solids arrive from <a href="http://simplysolids.co.uk/" target="_blank">Justine</a>. I intended on starting this in January but I'm already a little behind.kerrypuddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17434412888084869374noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7679354134341869535.post-4312201967282121912013-02-22T15:22:00.000+00:002013-02-22T15:22:00.405+00:00InterruptionsThis week it has been half term. I look forward to a week off school and spending quality time with my children. Which is why I'm in here on the computer and they are in there watching the TV.<br />
<br />
I've tried to get some sewing bits done today, just a little but I have been completely interrupted many, many times. We've coloured pictures, we've baked and decorated cakes, I've had to watch many different dances and shows, we've been to buy a new school bag for the eldest and all I wanted was to get my scrappy trips basted!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-D-PU3tWUx98/USY4DeZ83uI/AAAAAAAAAeo/JqDN_aJIbpc/s1600/20130222_143838.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-D-PU3tWUx98/USY4DeZ83uI/AAAAAAAAAeo/JqDN_aJIbpc/s400/20130222_143838.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It has taken all afternoon for me to get this done! Hopefully I will get to start quilting it later once 'his nibs' comes back from work. Half term was meant to be about quilting this and my other WIP so I could move on to starting my Swoon quilt. Aaaaarrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh!<br />
<br />
And relax........<br />
<br />
In other news, last week I was lucky enough to win a £25 voucher for the <a href="http://www.thevillagehaberdashery.co.uk/" target="_blank">Village Haberdashery</a> courtesy of<a href="http://charlottenewland.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank"> Charlotte</a> who was celebrating a blog birthday and had a little giveaway. I spent hours trying to decide what to spend my winnings on. Honestly, hours. Eventually I popped a rainbow set of pearl bracelet fat eighths into my basket because I couldn't resist them. Quickly followed by some Ruby Star Rising clocks in orange and some Kona in ivy to go with it plus a reel of matching thread and some magnetic closey type things.<br />

These are destined to become a little bag for me for the spring/summer when it eventually starts to show itself. I have a really simple tutorial to refer to as this is me venturing into the unknown, having never made a bag before. Something quick and easy to do, hopefully inbetween interruptions!kerrypuddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17434412888084869374noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7679354134341869535.post-77998588897664523602013-02-21T17:22:00.000+00:002013-02-21T17:22:00.620+00:00Little apples......a little late!Here's one I made earlier. October last year to be precise and I forgot to show and tell then so here it is. Better late than never I suppose!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Simply quilted to match the diamond effect on the front....nothing to do with me wanting it finished or anything. Originally cut and pieced over Easter but this had sat around waiting to be quilted for ages though I don't know why.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Made from one layer cake using a free pattern from Moda. Really simple but nice. The backing was some solids that I had hanging around and half a yard of the clothes print and bound in the tiny apples print. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It measures approx 51 x 60 inches. Eldest daughter likes it but the cat loves it!</div>

<br />
The first to arrive was the Low Volume swap hosted by <a href="http://www.needlespinsandbakingtins.com/" target="_blank">Laura Jane.</a> My choice was the square in the middle! I love how everyone has their own interpretation of low volume and I can't wait to make something from the charms.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VkDimRBpp9M/UR-8SnRwcDI/AAAAAAAAAeA/hayOuIE6NLM/s1600/20130216_153310.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VkDimRBpp9M/UR-8SnRwcDI/AAAAAAAAAeA/hayOuIE6NLM/s400/20130216_153310.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The next parcel to arrive was the Simply Solids swap (nothing to do with <a href="http://simplysolids.co.uk/" target="_blank">Justine</a> but I did buy mine from there!) <a href="http://espritpatch.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Celine</a> was in charge of this one. I sent 2 yards of yellow fabrics and got this rainbow bundle back. I don't tend to buy lots of solids so this was a good swap for me as I now have a few more FQs to lay my hands on to mix in with my many prints.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zaWOL7Xk1Pc/UR-8KpHEsNI/AAAAAAAAAd4/k3-xOdxgA9g/s1600/20130216_152726.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zaWOL7Xk1Pc/UR-8KpHEsNI/AAAAAAAAAd4/k3-xOdxgA9g/s400/20130216_152726.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Then I did a bit of shopping for some Bella. I have a few Echo prints stashed away and I know Bella has been around for a while but I wanted some and <a href="http://www.misformake.co.uk/" target="_blank">Kate</a> had some on sale so I couldn't resist. Following that little spree I then headed over to <a href="http://www.seamstar.co.uk/" target="_blank">Courtney's</a> and got a few of the other prints to add to my collection.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eveYaodPIDg/UR-8FjiCvSI/AAAAAAAAAdw/Qj2a-nnH8QQ/s1600/20130216_152518.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eveYaodPIDg/UR-8FjiCvSI/AAAAAAAAAdw/Qj2a-nnH8QQ/s400/20130216_152518.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also did a spot more shopping but more on that later in the week once it arrives!</div>

<br />
<br />
I now have 19 blocks made and another 6 cut and ready to be completed. I was thinking of making my scrappy trips 60 inches square with a 5x5 layout of blocks but I'm not sure. Maybe I should just carry on making blocks so I have enough for the full 72x72 quilt.....decisions, decisions.<br />

Yesterday I spent a couple of hours pulling and cutting scraps and stash into the strips. I thought I had cut loads. It turns out I had only cut enough for 19 blocks!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xnAuiTxb9yo/UQWEoFpaiuI/AAAAAAAAAcU/BmITr7aEy10/s1600/20130126_144012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xnAuiTxb9yo/UQWEoFpaiuI/AAAAAAAAAcU/BmITr7aEy10/s400/20130126_144012.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Dodgy picture taken from phone!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
I raided my scraps and stash to try and get a mix of colours and prints. Initially most of the strips seemed to be pink but I think that might have had more to do with the 4 year old helper that appeared by my side and has since requested the finished article! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZQE1VTcnmSw/UQWEqyen1mI/AAAAAAAAAcc/gWHcy3pCYV0/s1600/20130126_164103.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZQE1VTcnmSw/UQWEqyen1mI/AAAAAAAAAcc/gWHcy3pCYV0/s400/20130126_164103.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A little more sewing this morning inbetween sorting washing, ironing and a swift shopping trip now means I have 9 blocks completed. I like how fast they seem to come together. It means that I can hopefully do a couple/few during an evening once school/home stuff have been sorted. In fact, that's what I intend to do now!kerrypuddyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17434412888084869374noreply@blogger.com0
