Tripping

Better late than never I've decided to join the Scrappy Trips club.  Yesterday I spent a couple of hours pulling and cutting scraps and stash into the strips.  I thought I had cut loads. It turns out I had only cut enough for 19 blocks!

Dodgy picture taken from phone!

I raided my scraps and stash to try and get a mix of colours and prints.  Initially most of the strips seemed to be pink but I think that might have had more to do with the 4 year old helper that appeared by my side and has since requested the finished article!

A little more sewing this morning inbetween sorting washing, ironing and a swift shopping trip now means I have 9 blocks completed.  I like how fast they seem to come together.  It means that I can hopefully do a couple/few during an evening once school/home stuff have been sorted.  In fact, that's what I intend to do now!

First finish of 2013

I feel like there should be some sort of fanfare as I have finally got round to doing some sewing and have something to show and tell!  This is the first finish of the new year but to be honest I pulled the fabrics out of my stash on Christmas eve.

A simple 5 inch square crib sized quilt which was a christening gift for a friend's son.  I enjoyed pulling the fabrics for this despite me thinking I didn't have any boy fabric!  I used a few FQs of Community Critters plus some solids in various shades of blue/green and brown.  Then to my amazement I even had something suitable for the binding - this came from my Pink Castle Stash club pack.  I even had enough solids to make a pieced back with a few of the 5 inch squares used on the front.

I am happy with it - I hope the parents and the little boy it was made for is too.  Now onto the next thing on my list - swoon blocks!

Swooning

In between Christmas and New Year I made this mini based on the Swoon block. I say based on as I didn't have the pattern or any instructions for making the block. Instead I went ahead based on a sketch and a whim.

You can tell I didn't have the instructions can't you!  Just look at it, nothing matches up!  But saying that it kept me busy for a couple of hours and I have promised it for a raffle prize for friends who have just set up their own WI group and it made me buy the pattern.

Yes I now have the pattern not just a sketch.  I have the correct measurements and fabric (almost) ready - just waiting on some background fabric to arrive.  I've decided to make a block a month using my Simply Solids stash club FQ bundle that I signed up for a while back.  I've even joined the Flickr group.

My inspiration comes from Katy and hopefully with practice I too will be able to create blocks this good soon!
